After the economic collapse of 2008, the Icelandic state acquired the banking system and at the same time the possibilities to decide how the banking system should behave in the future. Who should the banking system work for and who should it be owned by? Lydia Prieg, chief economist of the British think tank New Economics Foundation, discusses the role of community banks and provides insight into the activities of such banks in other countries. Ásgeir Brynjar Torfason, Ph.D. in finance and representative in the Finance Council, discusses community banks in the context of the Icelandic banking system. Guðmundur D. Haraldsson from Áldunni is the moderator.

The Democratic Society of Alda og Varða - the research institute for the labor market jointly organizes the lunch meeting on the right way in banking together with ASÍ and BSRB.

The meetings take place via Zoom and are open to everyone. Interpretation into Icelandic is offered, and to use it you have to click on the small globe that appears in the bar and select an interpretation. You can select "mute orginal sound" to hear only the interpreter.
