After the economic collapse of 2008, the Icelandic state acquired the banking system and at the same time the possibilities to decide how the banking system should behave in the future. Who should the banking system work for and who should it be owned by? Lydia Prieg, chief economist of the British think tank New Economics Foundation, discusses the role of community banks and provides insight into the activities of such banks in other countries. Ásgeir Brynjar Torfason, Ph.D. in finance and representative in the Finance Council, discusses community banks in the context of the Icelandic banking system. Guðmundur D. Haraldsson from Áldunni is the moderator.
